CITIES & TOWNS

Across Upstate New York, in communities large and small, racial covenants were used during the first half of the Twentieth Century to restrict minority homeownership, resulting in housing discrimination and residential segregation, and leaving a widespread, lasting, and adverse impact.  Segregated Upstate is intended to serve as a clearinghouse for information about the historical use of racial covenants in Upstate New York.  Click on any of the cities and towns below to learn more.
